Privet! I am Sofia Kovalevskaya! This is my very first experience with blogging. Let me tell you about myself, to begin with. I was born on January 15th, 1850, in Moscow. I am the middle child of three siblings. My father, Vasily Vasilyevich Korvin-Krukovsky, is a lieutenant in the Imperial Russian Army. My mother Yelizaveta Fedorovna Schubert, of German and Romani descent, is a well-educated and scholarly woman. I am very honored to be named the first Russian woman to majorly contribute to mathematics— especially in these times, where it is very taboo to be an educated female, let alone an educated female mathematician. Some of my major contributions to the mathematical field have been researches in mechanics, analysis, and differential equations. I am also the first woman to legally become a professor in all of Northern Europe! As well as that, I have also written a few books and enjoy writing plays. Until next time, do svidaniya!
